my spring break splits into 3 moments: arizona, new york, and chicago
I.
arizona
(basically a transition from the tundra of chicago to the sonoran desert - no complaints)
hole-in-the-rock at papago park
the TEMPERATURE shock!
the bajada (area between steep mountain slopes and the flat valley floor, formed when erosion breaks apart mountain peaks, and rain washes the rocks and soil to the valley below. the remaining debris is called the bajada) is one of the most diverse habitats in the southwest- a living treasure
arroyo - above is a midden, home of the packrat. rattlesnakes can sometimes crawl into the entrance of the midden, but luckily, packrats have built immunity to the venom!
hiking gateway bajada nature trail - cacti, wildflowers, and shrubs galore
who did it better?
flowers on the hike up
views from the horseshoe
me next to the sign at the elevation of 2375 feet and a palo verde tree
cacti are friends
cacti as representation of height goals
inspired by nature; the richest showcase of inspiring, destructing, and perpetuating ideas through evolutionary cycles. it does things with so little waste and with emergent patterns we can all learn from
el otro cafe in phoenix - highly recommend the pork belly tacos!
in-n-out runs- heaven on earth
views from sister's apartment
broken jukebox
brunch at a classic american diner - madison would be proud!
arizona capitol for the classic history schlep such as myself
arizona is home to one of the largest copper mines in the world, hence windfall willie.
the capitol's architecture is actually inspired by some of frank lloyd wright's design of the oasis, which exceeded the budget. also fascinated by the miranda v. arizona case that occurred here, resulting in the miranda rights of the 5th and 6th amendments
roosevelt row street art & murals
exploring scottsdale. I got to see the original artworks by banksy and warhol and other american fine artists in galleries, which made my day
tanning in the sunshine at maggie's rooftop pool every day
palm trees are the norm here
II.
Manhattan & Astoria, Queens
caught up with a childhood friend, had greek food and tapped into the night scene in Astoria, attended a conference, went for korean soup with jen
III. Chicago
aside from classes and professional development during spring quarter, I hope to
- cook my own food instead of ubereats or not eating at all
- attend church every sunday and grow my faith through weekly discipleship meetings
- 10 minutes of meditation every day, soul searching
- continue working at the CCSS and tutoring
- strengthen existing relationships and tap into newer markets as well xD
- maintain zen, minimalist lifestyle and achieve freedom from want
- create more art and write more!
that is all :) so happy these days
